BOTANICAL GARDEN

Every year in the month of May, a flower show is conducted at the Ooty Botanical Garden that exhibits various flowers along with rare plant species, which is a major attraction of the place. The celebration is held over a period of two days during which the inauguration of the show is held on the first day while prize distribution takes place on the second day. The entire garden is decorated with floral arrangements, Indian and Japanese decorations, vegetable carvings, bosai and flower rangolis.

DODDABETTA PEAK

Towering at a staggering height of 8650 feet or 2,623 meters above the sea level, Dodabetta, which literally translates into ‘big hill’ is the highest peak in the Nilgiri Hills.It actually stays in the suburbs of Ooty and is hardly 10 km from the place. A treat to the eyes, this picturesque land is indeed a great sightseeing place. It is a wonderful place for shooting and capturing nature’s scenic beauty in the camera and making all your fellow mates back at home turn green with jealousy. The hilly regions of Mysore and the open plain lands too can be easily captured in the camera and it is the best place to take a shot.

TEA FACTORY

The Tea Factory is for the experience seeker in you, for the is more of a museum. It lets you take a walk in the factory, with CTC machines processing tea. A two storey building, it has tea leaves driers on the second floor, while the walls are splattered with the history of tea and the art of tea making via paintings and more.Once here. you’ll know what makes a tea brand differ from the other in terms of quality and more. Watching the amazingly high speed CTC machines at work is an experience of a different kind, for you would’ve never imagined the rigour that goes into making that cup of tea of yours taste so good.

ROSE GARDEN

Visitors can find a variety of roses at the Ooty Rose Garden. The collection is vast and includes locals, non-local and hybrid varieties of roses. These have been sourced from all over the world and include Ramblers, Hybrid Tea Roses, Polyanthus, Floribunda, Green Roses, Black Roses, and Miniature Roses.2. The layout of the garden consists of bowers with creepers of rose, Pergolas and Rose Tunnels. There is an observation platform, also called the Nila Maadam, from where visitors can get a beautiful view of the entire garden.

OOTY LAKE (BOAT HOUSE)

There is a boat house which is linked to the Ooty Lake and opened by the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation. The main attraction of the lake is boating, and numerous visitors come here to enjoy these boating rides. Boating facilities including paddle boats, motor boats and row boats are offered here at the boathouse. A garden, a mini train and an amusement park are present in here too. Some other attractive features of the boathouse include a canteen which is again run by the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation and pony rides offered in front of the boathouse.

CHAMUNDESHWARI TEMPLE

This temple, of great antiquity, has a background of over 1,000 years. It was built as a simple shrine but later gained immense popularity due to the divinity of goddess Durga. It gained a lot of significance after the Maharajas of Mysore, the Wodeyars, came to power in 1399 AD. The credit for major contributions for this temple goes to three dynasties- Hoysala, Vijayanagar and Mysore rulers. Placed on the top of the Chamundi hills, the Chamundeshwari temple is one of the most popular and ancient temples of Mysore.

SAND MUSEUM

Spread over an area of 13,500 sq ft, the Sand Sculpture Museum in Mysore attracts tourists from all over the world because of its uniqueness of being the only museum in India that is dedicated to sand sculptures. A 15-feet-high sand statue of Lord Ganesh welcomes visitors to this open air space. The nearly 150 sculptures in this museum have been carved out of 115 lorry loads of sand, with the museum being designed to be eco-friendly.

WAX MUSEUM (MELODY WORLD)

Melody World Wax Museum is a one-of-its kind of museum showcasing a collection of over hundred life size wax statues and over three hundred instruments, all related to music. The models are shown representing various kinds of music.Established in October 2010, the various music settings represented range from the Stone Age to modern instruments and displays Indian classical Hindustani and Carnatic, Punjabi Bhangra, Jazz, Rock, Pop, Hip Hop, Blues, Middle East and Chinese to name a few.Melody World Wax Museum is the third largest art museum in India and attracts people from all over the world.

KARANJI LAKE

Karanji Lake is an ideal place for birdwatchers. It has over 147 different species of birds. Visitors can catch a glimpse of birds such as Sandpipers, Asian openbill storks, herons, egrets, greenish warbler, rose-ringed parakeet, brown shrike, red-whiskered bulbul, red wattled lapwing, booted warbler, black drongo and sunbird. Some of the usual migratory birds that can be spotted here are painted stork, ibis, egret, cormorant, grey pelican, etc.

MYSORE ZOO

Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, also known as the Mysore Zoo is one of the best zoological gardens in India. Maharaja Chamaraja Wodeyar established this Zoo in the year 1892 for the Royals. Furthermore, after the attainment of freedom, it was handed over to the Department of Parks and Gardens of the State Govt. The Zoo’s meticulous planning is responsible for making it a special zoological garden. It tends to create a natural habitat for the animals in it. From Big to small cats, Aquatic to terrestrial birds, and Primates to reptiles, one Hundred and Sixty-Eight species find their place in this zoo.

MYSORE PALACE

An incredibly breathtaking example of Indo – Saracenic style of architecture, the Mysore Palace is a magnificent edifice located in Mysore in the state of Karnataka. Also known as the Amba Vilas Palace, it is the former palace of the royal family of Mysore and is still their official residence. Referred to as the ‘City of Palaces’, Mysore houses seven other places, but none come close to awe – inspiring grandeur of this palace. Mysore Palace was built in the year 1912 for the 24th Ruler of the Wodeyar Dynasty and is counted amongst one of the biggest palaces in the country.

JAGANMOHAN PALACE

Situated in the majestic city of Mysore, the Jaganmohan Palace is a spectacular edifice that has an illustrious history attached to its name. Built in the year 1869, it was used by the Wodeyars of Mysore when their main residence Amba Vilas Palace was under renovations post a fire accident. It is one of the seven palaces that are situated in the city and is counted as one of the most beautiful contributions of the Wodeyar Kings of the city during their reign. The Jaganmohan Palace was converted into a magnificent art gallery and today hosts some of the most exquisite pieces of artwork for all to see.

ST. PHILOMENA’S CHURCH

Recognized as the second tallest church of Asia, St. Philomena’s Church was constructed to pay tribute to the Catholic Saint and martyr of Roman Catholic Church, Saint Philomena. It is one of the most important historical sites in Mysore and is frequently visited by tourists from all over the country. The church is beautiful and one of the most distinctive landmarks of the city. It looks even more beautiful in the evening sky and is given religious importance having a Neo-Gothic style of architecture which makes it all the more famous amongst masses.
