BEKAL FORT,CHANDRAGIRI FORT: For the defence of his kingdom against the many fighting dynasties of South India, Sivappa Naik built the Chandragiri fort in the 17th century. It was one of the few forts constructed during the same time by the Naik dynasty for the same purpose. Much later it fell into the hands of Hyder Ali of Mysore and then finally under British East India Company. The region, as well as the fort, was re-joined with Kerala after independence through the State Reorganisation Act of 1956.
BEKAL BEACH: The Rock Garden is an interesting garden to visit when on Bekal Beach. The garden consists of murals, sculptures and laterite boulders of various shapes and sizes arranged artistically to complement the theme of the beautiful garden. It also has a play area for children with rides, slides, swings, jungle gym, seesaw etc. You kids will have fun here for sure and maybe even make new friends.
KAPPIL BEACH: One of the best things to do at Kappil beach is a backwater ride or simply boat ride. You can rent a medium-sized or small-sized boats that offer backwater tours to the tourists. You can also walk up to Varkala cliff, treating your eyes to the wonderful scenery all around you. Trekking up the Kodi cliff is also quite popular.
ANANTHAPURA LAKE TEMPLE: The Ananthapura Lake Temple is a perfect example of nature living in total harmony with each other, and it indeed is, as it is seen by the presence of a crocodile in spite of humans visiting the temple to offer their prayers. Babiya never attacks the humans even when they use the tank for taking a bath and humans never treat him differently and together they maintain a blended and peaceful existence. One has to visit this temple to experience total harmony.
MALIK IBN DEENAR MOSQUE: The mosque is believed to be built in AD 642 and appointed Malik Ibn Muhammad, the son of Malik Bin Deenar, as the Qazi of it. The place contains the grave of him and Muslims in the state considered it as a sacred place. This mosque celebrates an annual festival every year in association with the arrival of Malik Ibn Dinar to the country. Malik Ibn Deenar Mosque is one of the most popular pilgrim spots for the Sunni Muslims in India.
MADHUR TEMPLE: There are several legends about the magnificence of Madhur Temple. The Brahmanda Purana tells us that Bhargava Rama established the deity of Lord Vighneswara and offered prayers. The Skanda Purana tells us that Dharmagupta, the king of Trigarta Dravida kingdom drew the sketch of Mahaganapathi on a wall on the banks of river Kashmira as per the suggestion of Vasuki, to ward off the obstacles he came across while performing the Maharudrayaga. He then built a temple around the sketch and established the Linga of Srimadanantheshwara.
