BEKAL FORT [CHANDRAGIRI FORT]

Bekal Fort is a historic fort which was built almost 300 years ago. It is surrounded by a beautiful beach offering a mesmerizing view of the Arabian Sea from its observation tower where once the cannons were placed.The fort has a keyhole shaped structure that stands still against the rocky shores of sea amusing its visitors with its impressive strength. The fort was constructed purely for defence purpose by Shivappa Nayaka of Bednore in the year 1650.Bekal Fort is one of the largest and most preserved forts in Kerala. The fort still stands in its full glory narrating a story of its past. Every year tourists visit this fort which is nestled in the lap of nature.

BEKAL BEACH

Bekal BeachThe Rock Garden is an interesting garden to visit when on Bekal Beach. The garden consists of murals, sculptures and laterite boulders of various shapes and sizes arranged artistically to complement the theme of the beautiful garden. It also has a play area for children with rides, slides, swings, jungle gym, seesaw etc. You kids will have fun here for sure and maybe even make new friends.People flock to these spots in great numbers. Situated comfortably on steep hills by the sea, the fort provides for an imposing view from the beach. Built using laterite slabs and with a polygonal shape, it is amongst the most visited sites in Kerala.

ANANTH PADMANABHA LAKE TEMPLE

The only lake temple in Kerala, Ananthapura Lake temple is believed to be the original seat of Ananth Padmanabha Swami. It is built in the middle of a lake in the small village of Ananthapura.The temple is located 6 km from Kumbala. The temple structure is built out of a massive rock and it is dedicated to Anantha Padmanabha Swami. The mural painting on the walls of the temple depicts the stories from the Puranas. Besides the paintings, there is a cave that leads to a pond.

KAPPIL BEACH

Kappil beach is a flawless tourist spot along the Malabar shoreline, located about 15 kilometres south of Kasaragod town.The beach has a bewitching beauty that attracts tourists who are looking for a serene location to spend an evening with family or friends.The Kodi cliff near the beach offers panoramic and magnificent view of the Arabian sea. The climb to the cliff is worthwhile as one can enjoy the majestic glory of the Arabian sea.The beach is situated 6km away from the Bekal fort. Kappil beach is one of the cleanest and pollution free beaches in Kerala.

MADHUR GANAPATHI TEMPLE

Madhur Ganapathi Temple is also known as Madur Madanantheswara Siddhi Vinayaka temple. It is one of the famous temples in North Kerala which is 8 km’s away from Kasargod town. It is located in the bank of river Madhuvahini. In front of the temple, Madhuvahini River is flowing and all other sides are surrounded by the paddy fields and coconut trees. The locality of the temple has greenery picturesque which is very natural and makes enthusiasm about the place. The main presiding deity is Lord Shiva. However, the temple is famous for MahaGanapathi and people believe Ganapathi idol will be keep growing. Temple is administrated by Government of Kerala and temple provides free lunch for devotees in the name of Prasadam.

RANIPURAM HILLS

Blessed with the bounty of nature, this destination is Kerala is a refreshing change from the monotony of concrete jungles. The entire trek route of Ranipuram is very scenic and a delight for nature photographers. Exploring the land on foot while being surrounded by flora is surely a serene experience. You will encounter a small stream en route, which seems like it has been pulled out straight from a painting. The trek lasts for about two and a half kilometers, and the summit has a cave, and reaching it is quite an adventurous experience.

PARAPPA WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

Kasargod is a place which is blessed with nature’s beauty and tranquility. Parappa Wildlife Sanctuary is one such place which offers both. It also offers natural habitation to many wildlife creatures such as turtle, porcupine, pig, Malabar Hornbill, slender loris and jungle cat.Blessed with thick cover of evergreen forest and many plants with medicinal value, this sanctuary is a paradise for nature lovers.A fragmented RF, Parappa reserve forest of Kanhangad range are home for jungle cats, slender loris, wild pig, porcupine, turtles, peacock, Malabar horn bill, butterflies, medicinal plants and wet evergreen forest. Illicit tree felling, hunting, encroachment are main threats for this sanctuary. It is about 22 km East of Chervathur town.

MAIPADY PALACE

Maipady Palace is an ancient palace located nearly 8 km from Kasargod town on Kasargod-Perla Road. This popular site belongs to Kumbala kings.The Maipady Palace has a history of about 200 years. Frequent buses are available to reach this palace from Kasaragod town. Madhur Village located near to the palace is also a popular destination among tourists.

KAREEM’S FOREST

Over 4 decades ago, a man bore ridicule and doubt to cultivate saplings and trees on a barren hillside.Abdul Kareem would personally transport water on his two-wheeler to nurture the land and today, it is among the most-loved sites in all of Kasaragod district. Kareem’s Forest today is spread over 32 acres. Situated around 23 km away east of Kanhangad Town, this green haven is popular for the picnicking spots, equable climate and magnificent visuals of pristine nature. Held in high regards for its various feats in forest conservation, it is on the route close to Parappa near Nileshwar.

CHERUVATHUR

The etymology of the name has its origin in the Malayalam words “cheriya pathu ooru” which means ten small places. Cheruvathur mainly attracts tourists because of its lovely views and greeneries. But more than that, it is a peaceful suburban retreat for a short weekend trip. There are not many places which you can visit. So, you can spend the time with your loved ones as much as you want to. Cheruvathur and its surroundings is a favourite picnic spot for the same reason. People from nearby places flock in during the peak seasons for an outing and enjoy the day far from the city’s cacophony.

TRIKKANAD PANDAYAN KALLU

Popularly known as the Dakshina Kashi, Trikkanad and Pandayan Kallu is a temple sitting deftly near the Bekal Fort. Located about 2 km from Trikkanad is the Pandayan Kallu, a rock ascending from the sea which is popular for swimming.The legend behind this rock is when one of the Pandya kings attempted to attack the temple, Lord Shiva changed the temple into a rock. A place nearby known as Palakkunnu Bhagavathi Kshetram is flocked by visitors during the festival of Bhurani held every year.
